APECS Canada and Arctic Science recognize the vital role played by ECRs in addressing the escalating challenges and rapid changes in polar regions and their global significance. Through this partnership, we aim to provide meaningful opportunities for ECRs while contributing to the cultivation of the next generation of polar researchers.

The Early Career Scientist Reviewer Program aims to establish a database of ECRs in polar sciences who are interested in reviewing scientific manuscripts. Together, APECS Canada and Arctic Science are dedicated to nurturing a community of skilled and knowledgeable reviewers through this program. Join the program to:

Arctic Science and APECS Canada will co-host an annual award for an outstanding ECR reviewer to be featured on both parties’ websites.

Eligibility
(1) Applicants must be a polar early-career scientist. This can include MSc or non-PhD students, PhD students, postdoctoral fellows (< 5 yrs post-PhD), or other researchers < 5 yrs post-PhD.
(2) Applicants may be national or international.
(3) Applicants are encouraged to become APECS members, though APECS membership is not required.
(4) Applicants may have come from any area of expertise and discipline in the natural sciences, applied sciences, and engineering, provided their work is related to northern polar regions, including Indigenous and scientific knowledge.
(5) No previous publishing or reviewing experience is required.
